Nearest railway station to Westendorf: railway station in town
The choice of airports for travellers wishing to visit Westendorf is usually restricted to Innsbruck and Salzburg in Austria and Munich in southern Germany.
Innsbruck Airport is the closest and most convenient airport for Westendorf. Most of the road route from the airport is along the Inn valley motorway, with a 15-minute stretch along the single road into the Brixen valley.
Innsbruck is the number one charter airport on winter weekends, but it has also become more attractive for visitors looking to arrive on other days and for other durations because of the introduction of low-cost carriers from various countries.
Salzburg Airport is a convenient journey for Westendorf and it offers a good mix of charters, low-cost carriers and scheduled flights.
The most popular and shortest route takes minor roads through ski resorts which can, however, make for a long journey in bad weather. It runs through the small part of Germany which separates one part of the province of Salzburg from another and then via Lofer and St Johann into the Brixen valley.
An alternate route can be taken via the German motorway system to Kufstein and Wörgl - although longer, this is possibly a better option in bad weather, but may be busy on weekends in high season.
Munich Airport is to the north of the city and the motorway route to Kufstein and the Austrian border can get busy in holiday periods but this is certainly a viable option for those arriving on scheduled flights or on their low-cost rivals.
Westendorf railway station is located near the main road through the Brixen valley below the main village. The village can be reached from the station in the daytime by the regular ski bus, or by taxi throughout the day and night. Trains run from the local rail hub of Wörgl on a regional service (taking about 20 minutes into the valley).
Westendorf is mainly known for its selection of family-run hotels and guesthouses and, for many years, this was largely what was on offer in travel company brochures.
Westendorf was synonymous with a value ski package in a lively traditional village with decent skiing on the doorstep.
There are, however, four-star hotels available in the village, for those visitors looking for a little bit more of an up-market ski holiday.
The individual hotel listings below include four-star superior through to three-star hotels. For other hotel categories or alternative types of accommodation, please use the availability search box below:
