Söll is an attractive village ski resort, located on the main traffic route between the towns of Wörgl and St Johann, and easily reached from all directions.
Over the years, Söll has typified the "Austrian ski experience" for British and Irish skiers - a cheap and cheerful village with a decent amount of intermediate skiing and a nightlife that can get raucous.
These days the ski and hotel facilities have improved and the hard-partying beginner groups have departed to other resorts, leaving Söll as a convenient entry to one of the largest linked ski areas in Europe.
Elevation: 700 metres
Location: 6306 Söll - Tyrol - Austria
Söll - like many other Tyrolean ski villages - undergoes a transformation in the autumn. Out go the chimes of the cowbells as the cattle are brought down from the mountain slopes, and in comes the beep of the cash register as the busy lift-pass offices at the base of the slopes rack up another lift pass sale.
Söll is one of the best-known ski resorts in the massive SkiWelt - Wilder Kaiser area and attracts a loyal clientele of regular enthusiasts who are now being joined by newcomers attracted by the scope of skiing on offer.
Söll was originally known for its cheap accommodation - last-minute "snowhome"
deals in private guesthouses proved the introduction to skiing for many an
Austrian first-timer. Nowadays those skiers have grown up and Söll has grown
along with them, with a number of three- and four-star hotels in the resort
and surrounding countryside.

A beginners' ski area is located on the other side of the main road from the
village at the base of the Hochsöll gondola. Fit skiers - or those staying
in the accommodation in that part of the village - may want to walk to the
bottom of the lifts but most will take the easy skibus the short journey up
to the gondola base station which leads to the intermediate slopes of Hochsöll.
