Scheffau is little-known as a ski resort on the international scene, but locals know that it offers access to some of the best skiing in the vast SkiWelt area. When resorts on the other side of the ski area may be suffering through lack of snow, Scheffau consistently produces the best quality in the area on the shady side of the mountain.
Scheffau is located off the main road between the neighbouring resorts of Söll and Ellmau in a quiet and elevated position. The two gondolas which head up into the Brandstadl area at an altitude of 1650m are located on the other side of the main road and reached by a ski bus.
Elevation: 750 metres
Location: 6351 Scheffau - Tyrol - Austria
Scheffau, like many of the neighbouring villages, was originally settled by farmers and the name comes from its farming background (literally, a crooked or tilted meadow).
The first ski lift was built in the 1960s, but tourism in the village really took off with the construction of a ski lift up to the Brandstadl and the connection to the main SkiWelt area.
Scheffau is a small village with fewer hotels and guesthouses than the more
developed villages nearby, but with a large number of private houses and apartments
on offer as vacation rentals.
