Access to Mayrhofen or any of the surrounding villages is via the Ziller valley - a lengthy side valley off the Inn valley.

Mayrhofen is the principal resort in the area and most of the accommodation is located within the triangle formed by the train station and the base stations of the two mountain lifts on either side of the town.

An alternative to the lively nightlife and bustling town is provided by some of the other ski resorts which are linked into the large Mayrhofen - Finkenberg - Rastkogel - Eggalm ski area.

The nearby villages of Hippach and Ramsau are situated slightly down the Ziller valley from Mayrhofen and have access to the ski area by means of the Horberg cable car.

The main road bypasses the centre of Mayrhofen and continues to climb in altitude past the villages of Finkenberg, Vorderlanersbach and Lanersbach (covered on a separate hotel page). Each of the different hamlets has access to a different part of the larger ski area.

The valley continues rising until it reaches the base station of the Hintertux glacier ski area. Hotels for this area are covered on our Hintertux accommodation page.

Just down the valley from Mayrhofen, the villages of Schwendau, Hippach and Ramsau merge into one another. The Horberg cable car accesses the main ski area above Mayrhofen from just outside Schwendau, while Ramsau has a small local ski area connected to the lifts from Hainzenberg.
