Kaprun is an attractive settlement to the south of Zell am See just off the main road along the Salzach valley between Pass Thurn and the lake.
Kaprun has a local ski area just outside the centre but the real attraction is the glacier skiing on the Kitzsteinhorn in the mountains further south - some of the highest in Austria.

finding your way around the resort
Most of the hotels are located in the central area around the tourist office and central square, with some along the main road out towards the Kitzsteinhorn lifts further up the valley. Another favourite quiet area is out to the east of the village towards the castle.
There is a good local bus system between the lifts and the centre of Kaprun and between Kaprun and Zell am See.
