The largest ski area in Lower Austria extends along the Hochkar near Göstling an der Ybbs in the Mostviertel region.
The 1800 metre high Hochkar is just over two hours in a car from Vienna. The skiing here has a good snow record and the resort often stays open well into April.
The ski area has eight lifts and 19 kilometres of pistes, with demanding slopes as well as easier ones. Freestylers can enjoy practising their tricks in the large fun park. There are two conveyor belts in the Kinderland. There are plenty of rustic huts and mountain inns for a break during skiing, while those looking for après-ski should head to the Joschi Bar.
Limited hotel and guesthouse accommodation is available at the Hochkar, for those who want to stay overnight at the ski area. There is also overnight accommodation further down in the valley in Göstling an der Ybbs. From there, skiers can take the ski bus, free with a ski pass, up to the Hochkar.
